Raging fire destroys Boksburg factory

A storage factory at the intersection of Van Dyk and Falkirk roads, was completely destroyed by a raging fire on the night of January 5.

The factory belongs to Monarch Travel Goods, which deals in assembling electrical appliances and aluminium frames, among other products.

No one was injured in the process and the exact cause of the fire is still unknown, as the company was closed at the time.

Ekurhuleni Emergency Services Media Liaison Officer, Vincent Khoza, said they reacted to the call about a fire at around 7.30pm.

The factory was well alight when they arrived.

“We managed to get the fire under control just before 10pm and an hour later, we started dampening down the area,” said Khoza.

Khoza added that they managed to stop the fire from spreading to parts of the factory where the company stores finished goods – and to other buildings in the area as well.

EMS’s fire investigation unit is still trying to determine the cause; and it’s not yet clear how much damage was caused in the fire.
