Boksburg North SAPS makes a number of arrests over festive season

While most of us were on holiday enjoying the summer sun, Boksburg North SAPS kept our city safe.

According to the Boksburg North SAPS communication officer, Capt Juanita Coetzer, the following arrests were made over the festive season:

* Another Boksburg North Hotel suspect arrested

The last suspect in connection with the Boksburg North Hotel robbery on November 23 has been arrested. Three African males entered the hotel and held up the complainant and his wife with firearms and robbed them of cash.

Det-WO Willem van Aswegen received the docket for investigation and on December 7 he arrested the first suspect in the case, followed by the arrest of a second suspect on December 23.

They were detained at Boksburg North SAPS and appeared in court. The investigation is ongoing.

* Theft from motor vehicle, possession of stolen goods

A security officer at a company in North Rand Road, Bardene, saw an unknown male inside the company premises, on December 30, at noon.

According to Coetzer, the security officer saw the suspect removing parts from vehicles so he followed the man and apprehended him.

The Boksburg North SAPS was contacted, the suspect was arrested and stolen motor vehicle parts which were in his possession were recovered.

* Culpable homicide

Three people were declared dead on the scene following a motor vehicle accident on the N12 highway, between Rondebult and Trichardts roads, on December 30, at around 6am.

According to an eyewitness, the driver of a bakkie lost control and then fled the scene.

The investigating officer, Det-Sgt Sonnyboy Mavanga, was successful in tracing the driver and arresting him.

* Murder in Dunswart

A man, who had a stab wound in the upper body, was declared dead on the scene at Dunswart Tavern, Anderbolt, on January 1.

The Boksburg North SAPS were called to the scene and found the man on the floor.

Coetzer said the suspect who stabbed the man ran away.

“The suspect allegedly wanted the victim’s cellphone, but the victim did not want to give him his phone,” said Coetzer.

“He was, therefore, stabbed with a knife.”

A friend of the suspect was still on the scene and when the police searched him, they found the victim’s phone in his possession.

He was arrested. The investigation is ongoing.
