Vehicles stolen as thieves target two dealerships in Trichards Road

Boksburg Car Sales on the corner of Trichardts and Willow roads in Eveleigh, was robbed of six vehicles during the night of November 13.

The stolen cars were: two Toyota Fortuners; two Toyota Hilux bakkies; a Toyota land cruiser and a Ford Ranger. The year models of the vehicles range from 2010 to 2016.

Computers, a camera, a garage card and cash were also stolen from the dealership.

Apparently, the stolen garage card was swiped at a shop in Hillbrow and various toll gates.

According to Andries Pienaar, owner of the dealership, the thieves switched off the dealership’s electricity at the power box and waited for the alarm battery to run off.

“Thereafter, they raided the dealership and cut off all alarm wires – and went through every cupboard,” said Pienaar.

That’s when they came across the computers and the camera.

Pienaar added that the suspects switched the power back on, to cut open the safe. Inside the safe were car keys, cash and a garage card.

Again, the electricity was switched off and, according to the complainant, the robbers broke the gate open and drove off with the six vehicles.

“There’s no working street light in Willow Road. On the camera footage of surrounding businesses, you can see clearly how they operate.

“You also see SAPS and SW Security vehicles driving up and down Trichardts Road, but because of the darkened street lights and our dealership’s power that was out, you only see movements and no faces – not the vehicle that dropped them off either.”

According to Pienaar’s knowledge, thieves have targeted about ten other car dealerships during this month (November) in Benoni, Springs, Kempton Park, Edenvale, Bedfordview, Brits and Boksburg.

“Those dealerships were robbed in a similar manner and about the same amount of vehicles were stolen,” Pienaar concluded.

* The Advertiser was informed of another dealership in Trichardts Road, which was recently robbed of vehicles and other valuable items.

We’re still awaiting a response from the Boksburg North SAPS.
