According to Pieter Jordan, from the Ekurhuleni Emergency Services, no injuries or loss of life were reported in the city following the storm.
“We were alerted that in Witfield 11 houses were flooded, but no injuries were reported.
“In Angelo, about 100 people were taken to a local place of safety,” Jordan said.
Spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department Kobedi Mokheseng said parts of Rietfontein Road, especially at the interchange, were flooded between 6pm and 10pm.
Pictures forwarded to the Advertiser, however, suggest widespread flooding, along North Rand Road and other parts of the city.
No other serious incidents were reported.
