Mayor hands over Villa Liza homes

Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina handed over the first four houses out of 171 to the community of Villa Liza on November 4.

According to mayoral spokesman Zweli Dlamini, the four identified people who received the keys to the new RPD houses had special cases.

“The roll-out of the houses is still continuing in Villa Liza as officials are handing out more houses to the people according to the list,” Dlamini said.

One of the four people who received a new RPD house is 82-year-old Siphiwe Memela.

Community leader Maxwell Mdlungu said the situation surrounding the allocation of the houses is still sketchy.

“The residents of Villa Liza are still angry about how the process of allocation is being handled. They don’t understand how the names that are on the list came about,” Mdlungu said.

The community alleges that there are people who applied for a house 10 years ago but are still not on the list.

The residents also allege that among the people who are on the list are foreigners who bought the houses.
