The man was found on the side of the road next to the traffic light on the corner of Field and Main Reef roads in the early hours of Sunday, November 6.
He was rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.
It is believed that the attack happened a few hours before a passer-by found him dying in the street.
It appears that the man was hit in the head with a golf club, which police found next to him.
No arrests have been made so far.
Police are carrying out inquiries to establish the circumstances behind the incident, and are appealing for information that could help them solve the case and identify the man.
