Crime wave hits Boksburg over the weekend

Below are some of the serious crimes reported to the Boksburg police over the weekend.

* A Rahman family parted with their hard-earned R20 000 and a motor vehicle when a heavily armed gang of robbers accosted them in Freeway Park, on Saturday, November 5.

According to the Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Srgt Cebisa Maseko, the complainant and his brother were confronted by seven men, all armed with guns, at about 10pm.

“The victims had just closed their shop in Freeway Park, and were walking from the business to their Ford Ranger parked outside the business when they were approached by the gang.

“The crooks forced the pair to get into separate cars (the Ford Ranger and an Opel Corsa), before they drove with them to an undisclosed location.

“Upon arriving at the location, the robbers then took the victims’ money and their cellphones before they drove away with the family’s vehicle,” said Maseko.

No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

* In another crime story, a Reiger Park woman told the police that she was robbed of her cellphone worth about R13 000 on Leeuwpoort Street, near the taxi rank, over the weekend.

“The suspect grabbed the cellphone from the woman’s hand and ran on foot towards the post office,” said Maseko.

* Meanwhile another woman was stabbed and robbed of her belongings at the Boksburg Lake on Saturday, November 5.

The woman told the police that she was walking along the area when four men confronted her. She was stabbed in the back and searched.

They took her cellphone and R500.

* Meanwhile in Sunward Park, two men forced their way into a house on Albrecht Road and stole thousands of rand worth of goods, on November 4.

The occupant of the house told the police that he woke up at about 2am when he heard a commotion. He then spotted the suspects running away, jumping the fence.

Upon investigation, the complainant discovered that the thieves had already stolen his TV set and other electrical appliances.

They apparently broke one of the windows to enter the house.

* In Parkdene, thieves stole a Hyundai H100 van worth about R140 000 on November 6.

* Another Hyundai H100 van worth about R90 000 was stolen from Leeuwpoort Street on November 4.
