Ward committee elections now open

The Ekurhuleni Metro informs all organised formations, interested groups and sectors that nominations for the election of the new ward committee members are open until Friday, November 4.

Nomination forms are available at all Customer Care Centres, libraries and public participation offices.

Nominations can be made for representatives from the following sectors:

*Women and Children

*Infrastructure Services

*Aged and Disability

*Economic Development and City Planning (FBO)

*Faith-based Organisation (FBO)

*Health and Social Development

*Youth

*Sport, Heritage, Recreation, Arts and Culture

*Environmental Development

*Community Safety

q Below are requirements for one to be nominated as a ward committee member or a sector representative:

*Be a South African citizen

*Be a registered voter of that particular ward;

*Be at least 18 years of age

*Have no criminal conviction

*Don’t owe for municipal services or, if in arrears, one needs to make the necessary arrangements to settle the account according to set council policy.

Elections of ward committees will take place in each of the 112 wards, from November 12 to January 31, 2017.
