Police report: Thieves flee with thousands following weekend crime spree

Below are some of the burglaries that were reported to the Boksburg police over the weekend.

* Burglars broke into a home in Sunward Park overnight and stole goods worth about R83 000, while the complainant and his family were still asleep.

The intruders fled with electrical appliances including a TV set.

The incident is thought to have taken place between 8pm on October 23 and 4,45am on October 24.

The family came to know about the theft only when they woke up in the morning after which the police were informed.

The complainant noticed that one of the windows was opened with the burglar bars removed.

Police are investigating a burglary case.

* Meanwhile thieves broke into one of the Department of Correctional Services offices on Leeuwpoort Street, Boksburg CBD, and stole goods worth about R1000 over the weekend, according to a police report.

The complainant told the police that he came to know his office was ransacked when he returned to work at around 6am on Monday, October 24.

He discovered that there had been forced entry into the office and several items had been taken.

Police registered a business burglary case.

* In another crime story, thieves entered a cellphone shop through a hole they cut in the roof, and got away with 15 cellphones and a laptop, worth about R32 500.

The shop owner told the police that he left his business on October 21 and everything was still secure.

He then realised that burglars had struck when he came back to open the doors for business on October 22.

A case of business burglary is being investigated by the Boksburg SAPS.

* On October 21, thieves broke into a business on Trichardts Road and stole goods worth about R10 950.

The stolen goods included a grinding machine, computer and windscreen repair kit.

No arrests have been made but investigations are ongoing.
