Boksburg: Three killed in minibus-truck crash on N12 freeway

Three male minibus occupants, driver inclusive, were instantly killed when the vehicle they were travelling in crashed onto the rear end of a truck on Friday, October 20.

According to William Ntladi of the Ekurhuleni Eemergency Services, the accident happened on Pretoria road off ramp, N12 west bound in Boksburg.

“Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services` rescue team from Boksburg immediately responded out to the scene after receiving the call at about 10.20pm stating that passengers were still trapped inside the vehicle,” said Ntladi.

“On arrival, it was found that the driver of the minibus and two of the passengers were still trapped inside the taxi wreck and all having sustained Poly Trauma. Pre-hospital medical treatment was initiated to all three and unfortunately all were declared dead on scene.

“Rescue team had to use specialised rescue tools to free the dead from the wreckage.”

He said it is alleged that the minibus was travelling at a very high speed when approaching the off-ramp when crashing into the broken down ‘stationary’ truck in the middle of the road.

The road was temporarily closed for traffic till all necessary accident scene management were conducted.

The scene was handed over to Ekurhuleni Metro Traffic Officers for further investigations.
