SPCA rescues dog stranded in Boksburg Lake

Neptune, an 18-month-old male fox terrier-cross, is up for adoption.

This is after the Boksburg SPCA rescued this dog that was stranded on a rock in the Boksburg Lake, on October 12.

The Boksburg SPCA rescue team, which consisted of Maggie Mudd (SPCA manager), Buti Mofokeng and Hope Makalapa, rushed out with their canoe after receiving an emergency call from a complainant.

On their arrival at the lake, they noticed the dog – which has now been named Neptune, because he came from the water – sitting on a rock in the middle of the “filthy, green lake”.

Within minutes Mofokeng came to Neptune’s rescue and helped him into the canoe.

Neptune was finally safe on shore, again.

According to Maggie, it remains a mystery how he ended up there, but it is believed that he most probably ran into the water while chasing after a mother duck and her ducklings.

“He must’ve mistaken the green algae growing on the water for grass,” said Maggie.

Back at the SPCA, staff members gave Neptune a bath to get rid of the dirt and slime which clung onto his coat.

“I am surprised that nobody came to claim him, because we have noticed that he has stitches from being neutered recently,” said Maggie.

Neptune came into the SPCA as a scared and nervous animal, but after being with the SPCA for more than a week, he has come out of his shell.

“He is a lovely dog,” said Maggie.

If you have the heart to welcome Neptune into your family, visit him today at the Boksburg SPCA kennels, in Railway Street, Boksburg.
