Tribute to Warnock (WATCH VIDEO)

With hazards flashing and sirens blaring, a 4km convoy of approximately 500 vehicles drove through the streets of Boksburg on Wednesday night, October 20, to pay tribute to Boksburg's Clinton Warnock (37), who died on October 16.

According to the Boksburg North SAPS communication officer, Capt Juanita Coetzer, Warnock, who was a guard at AAA Alarms – a security company – was responding to a business burglary in All Black Road, Anderbolt, when the incident occurred.

“After he (Warnock) apprehended two suspects, the company owner’s firearm went off and the bullet hit Warnock in the body,” said Coetzer.

The 67-year-old allegedly fled the scene.

Warnock was in a critical condition when he was rushed to hospital, where he later died.

Shortly after his death, community members established a ”Tribute to Clinton” WhatsApp group, where they shared their condolences and prayers for the fallen “soldier”.

Cobus Venter, owner of AAA Alarms, whom Clinton worked for, and Warnock’s wife, Chantelle Warnock.

Members of the Boksburg North CPF Sector One, whom Warnock has been working with in his security capacity for the past three years, organised the procession.

The convoy was attended by most security companies in the Boksburg area, various emergency and medical entities, representatives of the metro, CPFs from various clusters and sectors, and community members.

Many community members also paid their last respects on the pavements, as the convoy passed through the areas in which Warnock worked, patrolled and served the community.

Thereafter, a white cross, with a photo of Warnock and his name on it, was erected at the AAA Alarms offices, in Boksburg North.

A video showing photos of Warnock life was screened.

“It was amazing to see how all the crime-fighting entities came together to pay their last respects and tribute to a fallen hero and legend,” said Boksburg North CPF Sector One chairperson, Denise Curry.

“Clint touched so many lives in the line of duty and will be sorely missed.

“He was always available to assist the patrollers with any situation, regardless of what the situation was. Whenever Clint needed assistance to sort out a problem he was dealing with, he often called on the CPF Sector One patrollers for assistance – which was also the case on Sunday evening when he was shot and killed.

Flowers were laid down and candles were lit in honour of the late ”brother-in-arms”.

“Clint often assisted the community, whether they were clients of AAA Alarms or not. A part of the area Clint worked in, fell within the CPF Sector One demarcation which meant the CPF Sector One patrollers and Clint were patrolling together on many occasions, keeping the community safe.

“To us, Clint was much more than a security guard; he was a very dear friend and part of our CPF Brotherhood.”

Following the business burglary and shooting, two dockets – business breaking and murder – have been filed with the Boksburg North SAPS.

According to Coetzer, the two suspects who were apprehended on scene appeared in the Boksburg Magistrates Court on October 17.

The owner of the company whose firearm was discharged, handed himself over to the Boksburg North SAPS on October 18.

He was arrested and appeared in court on the same day.

* Clinton Warnock’s funeral will take place at Full Gospel Church of God in SA, opposite the Caltex garage in Paul Smit Road, Boksburg, tomorrow, October 21, at 11.
