Robbers bomb drop-safe in Sunward Park

The Boksburg police are searching for a gang of heavily armed robbers who robbed the Caltex garage on Kingfisher Avenue, Sunward Park on Thursday, October 20.

The drama unfolded at about 1.35am, when balaclava-clad gunmen stormed into the garage convenience shop and held up staff at gunpoint.

There were no customers and it was quiet when the men robbed the garage.

According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Sgt Cebisa Maseko, the robbers smashed the glass door with a hammer to enter the shop.

“They (the robbers) then demanded the panic button from the staff members, and instructed the workers to lie on the ground.

“A few moments later, the staff members said they heard a loud noise and noticed a cloud of smoke that filled the shop.

“The drop-safe was blown up,” said Maseko.

The thieves then helped themselves to the money and fled the scene.

No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

Eyewitnesses told the police that the robbers were driving a white BMW with no registration plates.
