Still no sign of abducted, gang-raped and possibly murdered girl

Police are still searching for the 18-year-old Boksburg girl who was abducted, gang-raped and possibly killed before she was thrown down an abandoned mineshaft, in Angelo informal settlement.

It is believed that the school-going girl, who cannot be named at this stage, was abducted by a group of BaSotho men, during the wee hours of Sunday, September 25.

Three suspects, aged between 22 and 28, have been arrested and taken into custody following the heart-rending incident.

The teenager was asleep in her shack when the BaSotho men reportedly arrived in the early hours and smashed the windows to get into the shack, in the informal settlement.

According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Sgt Cebisa Maseko, the suspects told the police that they dragged the defenceless girl to a nearby location, where they took turns raping her, before throwing her down a nearby disused mineshaft.’

With the help of community members and private companies, authorities have been searching for the teenage girl since Sunday, with no success.

Police vowed that they would not stop their search, and would continue to do all they can to locate the victim.

“We are still searching,” said Maseko.

“We have launched an extensive, large scale search for the girl in the area.

“We have covered almost all the places we suspect her attackers might have dumped her, but our search so far has not located her or unearthed additional clues into the whereabouts of the victim.

“The search is still ongoing, and we hope to find her, because we are treating the situation extremely seriously.”
