Police make another major breakthrough in fight against gun violence

Police have arrested three Lesotho nationals and seized three illegal firearms in a possible breakthrough against the ongoing gun violence in Boksburg.

Members of the Ekurhuleni Central SAPS Cluster, which consists of the Boksburg SAPS, pounced on the trio on Friday morning, September 23.

They were arrested in Angelo informal settlement, an area where gun violence, robbery and murder have become the order of the day.

Officers found the undocumented men in possession of the aforementioned illegal firearms, which they believe were previously being used in robberies and the on-going illegal mining turf wars, in Boksburg.

One of the firearms had two live rounds of ammunition, while the others were found loaded with one bullet each.

It’s also believed that these individuals are among the most dangerous members of the Angelo community, and removing them and their guns from the streets might bring peace in the area.

Moreover, it also emerged that those firearms were previously stolen from their rightful owners.

The suspects were charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and possession of suspected stolen goods, and are expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrates Court soon. -@FanieFLK
