Would you like to become a puppy raiser?

The Guide Dog Association is in desperate need for puppy raisers.

Puppy Raising is a programme run by Guide Dogs of South Africa in which eight-week-old puppies are raised for a year by volunteers.

These puppies are very special and are raised for a fantastic cause and can be used in many different ways.

If they don’t lead the blind, they can be used as service dogs, to help wheelchair-bound people, autistic children or as brood bitches.

The pups go to class once a week in Sandton for basic training for 13 weeks and thereafter once a month on walks to malls, schools and homes.

People that take this on will not be considered if they work full time, as the pups must not be left alone for longer than two hours at a time.

“Think of the benefits for a physically or visually impaired person and knowing that you raised the pup that will help them in the end,” said Mari Bezuidenhout, a puppy raiser for Guide Dogs of South Africa.

The Guide Dog Association supplies food and pays all vet bills and inoculations.

If you do not work full time, love dogs and consider becoming a puppy raiser, contact Monica Steen from Guide Dogs on 084 605 5338 or Mari Bezuidenhout on 083 306 7920 or weeniepups@gmail.com.
