Toy drive lights up the lives of the terminally ill

Impala Park-based Strictly Dancing Dance School recently hosted a dancing competition and a toy drive for children with terminal diseases.

The event took place in the Boksburg North Centenary Hall, on August 6, and dancers and dance schools from as far as Bethlehem, Welkom and Mpumalanga participated.

Strictly Dancing owner Leatitia Daschner said this of the drive: “We have a young girl in our studio who is one of these patients (referring to Charné van Emmenis).

“She was born with a heart condition – she is so humble and has asked for nothing for herself but to bless other children who go to the same hospital as she does, many of whom have no families.”

During the dance competition on Saturday they collected toys, colouring books, crayons and Teddy bears.

There were also dance moves galore to be admired, as dancers from various schools took part in a dancing competition.

Competition judges were Brandon Eilers Le Riche of Strictly Come Dancing and owner of Years in Dance, and Chris Cooper, owner of School of Dance in Atlasville.

A special thank you was extended to the following people for their help in making the event a reality:

*Gertie Tester, principal of Ashton International College and all the children who sponsored Teddy bears and toys. Also to Lana Clack and Michelle Da Silva, from LFG Aftercare, for being one of the main sponsors of this charity for 2016.

*Spur Germiston, who fed all the dancers.

*The Strictly Dancing team for all their hard work and setting up on Saturday.

*Outgoing Clr Hilary Coke for her support.
