Koi fish die due to ‘power failures’

Van Park seems to have been experiencing continuous power failures over the past eight years.

According to one of the residents in the area, the power goes off at least once a week for between eight to 10 hours.

However, it appears that only certain areas in Van Dyk Park experience problems with the electricity.

“I have a koi fish pond in my yard and all the fish, worth approximately R72 000, have died due to the power failures,” said the complainant.

Apparently contractors were on site (corner Vaalbos and Klimop streets) on July 20, in an attempt to repair a cable fault.

“I am fed up,” said the complainant.

“The Ekurhuleni Metro does not upgrade the power and water infrastructure.”

He claimed that the municipality’s overall maintenance in the Van Dyk Park area is poor.

“There are no street signs and motorists speed in Mimosa and Rooibos streets, due to the lack of speed humps,” he added.

“No law is applied here.”

The Advertiser is awaiting a comment from the metro.
