MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS: DA retains traditional wards in Boksburg

The Democratic Alliance retained almost all the wards in Boksburg following the August 3 municipal election.

DA constituency head in Boksburg, Janet Semple, was over the moon with the latest development.

“We did not just win, but we did so with an increased majority in most wards,” said Semple.

She attributed the increased majority to the hard work put in by DA councillors and called it a clear indication that people have confidence in the party and its ward councillors.

The DA councillors, she said, are always there to serve people.

She appreciates and thanks residents who went out to the polling station to reassure their trust in the DA.

“It’s good for us – it’s good for politics,” she said.

She was happy about the fact that her party’s candidates “smashed” Irasa candidates.

There were no reported incidents of violence in Boksburg during the voting process, while no other serious hiccoughs were reported on August 3.

Here is the status of Boksburg wards (as by Thursday afternoon, August 4):

*Ward 22 (upper part of Witfield, East Rand Mall, Boksburg North, Ravenswood, Dayanglen, Boksburg West, Comet and Beyers Park): DA 85,81 per cent, ANC 6 per cent, VF Plus 3 per cent.

*Ward 32 (Parkrand, Parkdene, Farrar Park, Cinderella, Libradene, Boksburg South, Boksburg East, Boksburg CBD, Cason, Anderbolt and Plantation): DA 81.35 per cent, ANC 12 per cent, EFF 3 per cent.

*Ward 33 (Wifield, Lilianton, Berton Park, Hughes, Comet Village, part of Angelo informal settlement, Delmore Park, Delmore Gardens): DA 50 per cent, ANC 27 per cent, EFF 17 per cent.

*Ward 34 (Reiger Park): DA 65 per cent, ANC 25 per cent, EFF 3.5 per cent.

*Ward 42 ( (Reiger Park and Joe Slovo informal settlement): DA 20 per cent, ANC 55 per cent, EFF 21 per cent.

*Ward 99 (Windmill Park): ANC 71 per cent, DA 14 per cent, EFF 7 per cent.

In Gauteng, by 8.30am this morning (Friday), the ANC is still leading by almost 45 per cent of the votes, but it remains a tight race for control of Johannesburg and Tshwane.

It, however, seems the ANC will win the Ekurhuleni Metro.
