DA displeased at electoral poster removal

DA Ward 32 councillor candidate Marius de Vos is displeased at the illegal removal of his election campaign posters.

De Vos hanged his posters around Boksburg High School in Leeupoort Street in the past two weeks.

“But this week, I noticed that some of my posters were removed from the lamp posts,” said de Vos.

The councillor candidate said this amounts to sabotage and is also in contravention of the electoral Act.

“Why are only my posters being removed – what are they afraid of?” asked de Vos.

In this way, he said, the playing field is not level.

“We have the right to campaign and people should also be allowed the right to choose whom they want,” said de Vos.

Section 92 of the IEC Act states that defacing, damaging or unlawfully removing any billboard, placard or poster published by a registered party or candidate from the date on which an election is called and declared is a serious criminal offence.

De Vos opened a case with the Boksburg police and they are investigating the matter.
