Robbery leads to fatal shooting in Witfield

The shooting happened immediately after two armed men robbed a supermarket at the corner of Main Street and Pretoria Roads, just before 7pm.

Boksburg North police spokesperson Capt Juanita Coetzer said that two men entered the supermarket and held up two shopkeepers at gunpoint.

They took an undisclosed amount of money and fled the store.

“The shopkeepers told the police that immediately after the two men left the store, they heard three gunshots outside.

“Then someone who appeared to have been shot entered the shop and fell on the floor,” said Coetzer.

It is understood that the unidentified man was shot by the two robbers, who fled the scene in a red Toyota Corolla.

Paramedics were called to the scene and certified the man dead on arrival.

Police are investigating business robbery and murder cases.

No arrests have been made.
