Fire destroys dental rooms at Tambo Memorial Hospital

It is suspected the fire was caused by an electrical fault.

Dental services at Tambo Memorial Hospital have been suspended until further notice following the fire that destroyed the dental clinic at the facility, last night.

Gauteng Health spokesperson Steve Mabona said fire broke from a dental clinic situated on the ground-floor next to the main entrance of the hospital, which is far from admission wards.

Mabona said preliminary investigations revealed that the fire might have been caused by an electrical fault.

He has three rooms were affected‚ and as such all dental equipment‚ materials and consumables were destroyed.

Mabona said no patient was affected by the fire which was successfully extinguished by the hospital employees.

Th evacuation lasted for about an hour.

He said the structural damage assessment to determine the monetary value of the damage has commenced.

The Fire department was continuing to investigate the cause.

“Unfortunately‚ the hospital would no longer render any dental services until further notice and patients would be referred to the nearest service points.”

Gauteng MEC of Health Ms Qedani Mahlangu, thanked Doctors, Nurses, cleaners and security officers for their role in putting down the fire.

It is not the first time that the hospital experiences such an incident.
