EMPD swoop on drug peddlers in Boksburg North

In a continuous effort to curb the drug trade, the EMPD arrested five drug dealers in Boksburg North on Sunday, June 26.

The EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit members first nabbed four men for possession of illicit substances after observing a block of flats in Boksburg North over a period of two days.

EMPD spokesperson Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago said that Cat, crystal meth and dagga with the estimated street value of R4 000 was confiscated from the suspects.

“Information received by the Metro Police, prompted the surveillance of the block of flats situated at the intersection of Cason Road and Gelofte Street.

“Then on Sunday, at around 6am, two Nigerian nationals aged 31 and 38 found in possession of crystal meth valued at R2000 were apprehended in one flat.

“The second arrest of a male Nigerian national (36), found in possession of Cat with the street value of R1 500, took place within the same block of flats in a different room.

Kgasago added another Nigerian national (38), found with dagga valued at R500, was then also arrested.

* In a separate incident, also on Sunday, information provided to the EMPD led to the arrest of another Nigerian national (26) found in possession of the drug Cat valued at R8 000.

The arrest took place at around 1pm.

Kgasago said the Metro Police acted on information provided and the suspect was closely monitored over a period of three days before his house was raided.

“Numerous small plastic bags in which the ready-to-be-sold illicit product is normally packed together with the Cat in block form were confiscated,” said Khasago.

All five were detained at Boksburg North Police Station after being charged with possession and suspected dealing in illicit substances.
They are expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
