Warning over water meter goes unheeded

Hennie Lamprecht's words were still ringing when a vehicle bumped into a water meter that was erected "at the wrong place".

At the beginning of May, Ekurhuleni municipal contractors constructed a water meter in the parking area of the gas station, in Main Street, Witfield.

“I told the Ekurhuleni contractors not to place the water meter there, because someone is going to drive into it,” Lamprecht said.

“Not long after they (the contractors) left the site, someone did (drive into it).”

Not long after the above water meter was erected in the parking area of the Engen gas station, in Main Street, Witfield, early last month, someone bumped into it with their vehicle.

However, the water pipe has allegedly been leaking since last year, but Lamprecht said that for the past two months, water has been streaming out of the pipe since the accident.

He has reportedly logged a complaint with the Ekurhuleni municipality, but no one has been on site to repair the leaking pipe or the crooked meter.

The Advertiser is awaiting comment from the metro.
