The men attacked and robbed Welcome Café at the intersection of Trichardts and Massel roads.
Owner of SW Security Izak Jansen van Vuuren said his officer who reacted to the incident was shot in the hand, stabbed in the back and also has a few bite marks on his arm and hands.
He, however, said the reaction officer also shot one of the attackers in the face.
The officer has been admitted to The Life Glynnwood Hospital where he is currently undergoing surgery.
Jansen van Vuuren was unable to say what damage he suffered at this stage.
The thugs took cigarettes and cash from the store.
But the bag containing cigarettes was found abandoned in Edgar Road.
No other injuries were reported apart from the two.
All the suspects, including the injured one, managed to get away and it is suspected that they were driving a white Ford Fiesta.
