Child Protection Week celebrated at Oos Rand Secondary

The Department of Social Development and its stakeholders partnered on June 1 to educate learners at the Oos Rand Secondary School about their rights and responsibilities as children.

This initiative was done in celebration Child Protection Week that runs from May 29 to June 5.

Khayakazi Fuphe from Life Line encouraged learners to report any form of child abuse in order to uphold the rights of children.

“It is important to disclose to someone about the abuse, if you are the victim or someone else, because keeping quiet won’t benefit anyone but will only make the situation worse,” said Fuphe.

She encouraged learners to also make use of Life Line which has been set up to respond to emotional trauma and individual crises, with a view to providing emotional support to anyone who might need help.

Dan Digale from the Reiger SAPS encouraged learners to report crime.

Precious Mokgabudi from Social Development said it remains a mission of the department to ensure the safety, well-being, care and protection of children as they are SA’s future leaders.

Members from SANCA Horizon and Drug Centre were also on hand to explain the dangers of taking drugs and how this scourge upon society is posing a real threat to the wellness of the youth.

Members of the SAPS also advised learners to report any criminal acts involving them or anyone around them.
