31 motorists caught driving drunk

Drinking and driving is one of the factors contributing significantly to the unacceptable carnage on public roads.

This is according to EMPD spokesperson Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago, who said that, in an earnest effort to not let this trend continue unabated, the EMPD conducted “Ke Molao Operation” (it’s the law) from on Friday, May 20, until 1am on Saturday, May 21.

Kgasago said that a total of 31 drivers were arrested in Katlehong, Vosloorus and Tokoza.

“Metro police officers closed in on Sontonga, Siluma, Bosworth, Brickfield, Potgieter, Thutong, Masakhane and Heidelberg (R103) roads, where the 31 drivers, including a woman were arrested,” he added.

Charges of driving while under the influence of alcohol were registered at the Alberton, Katlehong, Vosloorus and Tokoza police stations.

The suspects, who are aged between 29 and 64, are expected to appear in their respective magistrates courts soon.
