Wood factory burns to ashes in Anderbolt

Anderbolt based Rhino Wood suffered significant damage when a blazing fire burned the factory to ashes in the early hours of today (May 9).

The factory, which is situated at the intersection of All Black Road and Bhekakahle Street, deals in thermal modification of wood.

Ekurhuleni Emergency Services spokesperson William Ntladi said they received a call just before 1am.

“On arrival the factory was well alight and we had to first prevent the fire from spreading to the nearest building which is about 25m away,” said Ntladi.

Once the nearby property was secured firefighters started extinguishing the fire.

Though Ntladi could not estimate how much the fire cost the company, he said that piles of wood and 20 tons of wood waxing products was destroyed in the fire.

No one was at the factory when the fire started and it is not yet known what had sparked it.

“The information we have is that a security personnel from a private company responded to the alarm that went off at the factory but on arrival, he found the place was on fire,” said Ntladi.

Ntladi said the firefighters from Leon Ferreira, Boksburg Central, Wadeville, Farrarmere and Rynfield in Benoni all responded to the call.

Firefighters were still at the scene at around 9.30am today.
