Sunward Park couple wake up to gun-toting robber

The Boksburg policing precinct experienced a number of violent, armed robberies over the weekend, and police appeal to anyone with information to come forward.

Sunward Park residents fed up with crime 

A Sunward Park couple awakened to find an intruder standing in their bedroom, pointing a gun at their faces.

The robber and his accomplice entered the house through one of the windows, during the wee hours of Sunday, May 8.

The couple told the police the thug demanded their valuable belongings while his accomplice, who was at the time standing next to the toilet, fired one shot during the frightening ordeal.

No one was hit by the bullet.

The thugs then stole jewellery, a laptop, a TV set and a cellphone.

The estimated value of the goods is R35 000, and they are all insured.

* In another robbery, a gang of armed thugs robbed the supermarket on Station Road, Boksburg, in broad daylight on Sunday, May 8.

The complainant told the police that the men entered the shop at about 1pm and pointed guns at him.

He was pistol-whipped and forced to lie on the ground.

They then took an undisclosed amount of money, as well as cellphones and cigarettes.

No shots were fired.

* Meanwhile, two men driving in a maroon Toyota Corolla made off with an undisclosed amount of cash from the Engen garage store, on Kingfisher Avenue, at about 3.20pm on Sunday.

No one was injured during the robbery.

A Soweto man was stripped naked and robbed of R750 and a bag containing a tablet worth about R2 100, on Friday, May 6.

The man told the police that he was walking along Dudley Smith, Boksburg South, when a car stopped next to him.

A man alighted from the car and pointed a firearm at him.

He instructed the victim to strip naked, before forcing him into the boot of the car.

The robber then drove to the open veld next to the Boksburg Licensing Department, where he poured water on the victim, before instructing him to walk away naked.

Another man was robbed of items worth about R1 000, while he was walking along Min Reef Road, near the Kanana informal settlement, on Saturday, May 7.

The victim told the police that a man threatened him with a firearm, before taking his money and a bag containing a work uniform and other items.
