Two men entered the premises in Edgar Road and left a son and his mother bleeding.

Boksburg North police spokesperson Lieut Juanita Coetzer said the woman’s son went into the backyard when he noticed a stranger there just before 8am.

“He approached the man to find out what was going on, but the intruder grabbed an axe and hit the son,” said Coetzer.

He was apparently struck in the head and a tussle ensued.

Following the noise, the mother also came out to try and save her son from the stranger.

A resident in the area told the Advertiser that the intruder bit both of them in the process.

The man had an accomplice and they both ran away, jumping into other properties in the process.

Brave residents of Egdar Street gave chase and managed to tackle one of the intruders in Vickers Street.

He then tripped and fell and sustained a injury.

Coetzer said the apprehended suspect was transported to hospital under police guard and will be detained as soon as he is discharged.

The woman’s son was also treated and taken to hospital for further treatment.

The CMS, ADT and PHP security companies and the police joined in the chase and the search for the second suspect.

Police were seen in Moor Street, searching for the second suspect.

However, Coetzer said, he is still at large.
