Boksburg’s ‘Green’ beauty excited to enter Miss Earth SA pageant

A young, career-driven Simone Prinsloo (24), from Boksburg, has entered the green race in the hope of becoming Miss Earth South Africa.

Prinsloo, a sports fanatic, with rugby being her favourite, says her passion for fitness and health encouraged her to complete her BA Degree in Health Science and Psychology at the University of Potchefstroom.

She has also completed a part-time personal training qualification and her Post Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of Pretoria.

“In 2010 I had the privilege of being chosen as a semi-finalist in the Miss Earth pageant and this year I decided to enter again. Since it’s my last year to qualify to enter the competition, I thought I should try my luck,” Prinsloo said.

She has been involved with a number of charities, such as Choc, the Down Syndrome Association, Cansa and the Potchefstroom Jool Debutant, where she worked with local charities and several fund-raising projects in her bid to help the community.

Prinsloo classifies Miss Earth as not only a pageant, but as an environmental educational and enrichment platform to make a difference in communities.

Together with the leadership and empowerment programme that the Miss Earth pageant provides, she feels that this is one of South Africa’s most prestige pageants.

She said her strong character, determination, intelligence and hardworking ethic set her apart from the other finalists.

“I thrive on challenges – the tougher the better,” Prinsloo said.

Interviews for the semi-finalists will take place in May. In the meantime she will start working on various projects during May, June, July and August.

“September is Arbor Month, so there will be much planting and cleaning,” she said.

”My message to people is that they should recycle. This can be done at least once a month.

“We also all need to save electricity. This cuts down on harmful gases, like carbon dioxide, that are released into the atmosphere.

“Lastly, plant more trees and other plants in order to stabilise the ecosystem. Plants also absorb harmful gases.”

Miss Earth South Africa 2016 will be announced in September.
