Water conservation rests in the hands of future generations

A total of 120 learners from primary and secondary schools within the Ekurhuleni Municipality participated in the National Water Week celebration.

The Department of Water and Sanitation, in partnership with the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre, Department of Education, Rand Water, ERWAT and the City of Ekurhuleni, hosted the event at the hotel, on March 10.

National Water Week is an awareness campaign launched by the Department of Water and Sanitation and serves as a mechanism to stress the value of water, the need for sustainable management of this scarce resource and the role water plays in eradicating poverty and under-development in South Africa.

The annually celebrated campaign for this year has run from March 14 to 22, under the theme “Water for People, Water by People”.

Learners were given topics to research and created models and prepared presentations about how to preserve water, which were presented before a panel of judges.
