The DEMS spokesperson, William Ntladi, said Emergency Services and Disaster management teams have also put together response plans, including placing swift water rescue crew on standby for the duration of this period of rain.

Since the past week, the City has experienced continuous rainfall, resulting in flooding in different areas.

“DEMS officials are continuously monitoring and assessing areas prone to flooding on an hourly bases,” said Ntladi.

He said they are also closely monitoring for new weather developments.

“In addition to this, the metro is involved with the provision of emergency shelters and relief aid to the communities affected by flooding,” said Ntladi.

Should there be any life threatening emergencies, residents are advised to phone the Call Centre on (011) 458 0911 or the National emergency number 10177 or 107 in the event of flash-floods

“Ensure that you have the emergency call centre numbers at all times. Speak clearly on the phone when reporting an emergency.

“Provide the operators with all the necessary details required and do not end the conversation until all questions are answered,” said Ntladi.
