EMPD nab Congolese men for producing fake bank notes, credit cards

The EMPD arrested three Congolese men in Johannesburg, following several cases of manufacturing and distribution of fake banknotes and credit cards in Ekurhuleni.

The arrest was effected in the wee hours of March 11, by EMPD Germiston Crime Prevention Task Team members.

EMPD spokesperson Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago said information was received from reliable sources as to the modus operandi of the trio, in swindling unsuspecting persons out of their hard earned cash.

The Metro police swooped on the three suspected conmen just after midnight.

“They were found in possession of equipment they use in manufacturing the credit cards and R100 notes in Mondeor.

“A stack of fake R100 notes and manufactured credit cards were also confiscated,” said Kgasago.

The suspects, whose ages are 24, 28 and 32, were charged at Mondeor Police Station and were expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on March 14.

Kgasago warned the public to be vigilant and wary of such scams, as their genuine banknotes and credit cards can be easily exchanged for the fake ones by the tricksters.
