CRIME SPREE: Killings continue unabated in Angelo

The killing in Angelo informal settlement rages on.

In the latest crime spree, a man was stabbed to death allegedly by a Lesotho national during the early hours of Sunday, March 6.

It happened inside the Angelo Hotel, on Main Reef Road, in full view of other patrons. The man, identified by the police as Romeo Nene, died from a stab wound to his neck.

Paramedics certified Nene dead on the scene.

The motive for his killing is still unknown, but police have registered a case of murder and the investigation continues.

The suspected killer is known to the community and is still at large.

In a separate incident, a resident of Angelo, Ndumiso Linda, was gunned down in a hail of bullets in his home on March 2.

Police and paramedics were called to Linda’s shack shortly after the shooting, but efforts to save his life failed and he was pronounced dead on the scene.

He was on his knees with his hands on his bed. Linda suffered gunshot wounds to his hand, cheek and chest.

Two bullet cartridges were found next to the body, and two others were found on the bed.

The motive for the killing is unknown, and the full details of the shooting remain a subject of police investigations.

Elsewhere, a man, identified as Dumisani Ndebele, who worked as a queue marshal, died after he was shot multiple times at the Dunswart Taxi Rank.

The motive for the shooting is still unclear, but police are investigating a case of murder.

The latest killings add to the scores of people, mostly men, who have been murdered in Angelo in recent months.

At least two people are violently killed in the informal settlement almost every week.

Residents of the area say they have endured years of torment at the hands of armed criminals who rule the streets of the area.

Residents feel that the authorities have failed to address the problem, and some threatened to take matters into their own hands.

The Boksburg police, however, warned that taking the law into one’s own hands is not a solution.

The recent rise in fatal attacks is blamed on the influx of undocumented immigrants, along with illegal mining, corrupt community leaders and inadequate policing of the area.
