The sewage is clearly spilling into what appears to be a spruit.
According to the DA Ward 92 councilor, Ashley Rutherford, the officials attended to the matter last week but without success.
“I really don’t know what is going on there,” she said.
Rutherford is awaiting a reply from the metro regarding this stinking situation.
The Advertiser was on site taking pictures and experienced the horrendous smell, also witnessing the sewage streaming out the blocked drain and into the spruit.
According to André du Plessis, who serves on the metro’s Environmental Development Portfolio, this will be an ecological disaster because this means the spillage will be carried down by the stream to another body of water, which in this case might be Homestead Dam.
“Ekurhuleni needs to step in urgently as such pollution of water becomes a regular occurrence. If this water impacts Homestead Dam, then remember this body of water feeds into other dams with such water being used for recreational purposes.”
The metro has not commented on the Advertiser’s query.
