Reiger Park’s new station commander vows to win war against violent crime

The Reiger Park SAPS’s newly appointed station commander, Lieut Col Elsie Mashinini, has vowed that she and her members will do more to win the war against the scourge of crime and violence that afflicts the township.

Mashinini has extensive experience in law enforcement and she took over as the new station commander on February 1.

She was previously stationed at the Boksburg SAPS, where she worked for 11 years.

Mashinini was the head of the Boksburg SAPS Visible Policing (Vispol) Unit, and was later appointed head of the station’s Community Service Centre (CSC).

She joined the police service in November 1986, and said she has enjoyed the work since she started her career as a constable police officer, at the Delmas SAPS

She also previously worked at the KwaThema Police Station and the Duduza Police Station, before she joined the Boksburg SAPS.

As under resourced and small as it is, the Reiger Park Police Station was recently ranked the best performer of all the police stations in the Brakpan SAPS Cluster.

Mashinini said she, along with her members, would do their level best to continue coming out top in the cluster.

Within a very short space of time, she has already met some of the community members served by her station.

She visited the community of Ramaphosa on February 9, and is set to meet the community of Reiger Park on February 11.

On February 16, she will be meeting the community of the informal settlement called Ramaphosa Extension Two, and

other public meetings to introduce the new top cop will be held in the Delmore and Kanana informal settlements.

Dates for the meetings will be announced in due course.

Mashinini was born in Mpumalanga in 1964 and is married to Petros. The couple has two children, Themba and Sibusiso.

Mashinini succeeds Lieut-Col Sipho Mathebula, who had been acting as the commander of the police station since the former station commander, Col Berry Mashaba, joined the KwaThema Police Station as its commander.

Mathebula was transferred to the Boksburg North SAPS, and is working as the head of the Visible Policing (Vispol) Unit, replacing the former head, Lieut-Col Albert Chauke, who has been deployed to the Germiston SAPS to head the Crime Prevention Unit. -@FanieFLK
