Two children saved from apartment blaze; cat dies

It took around 45 minutes to extinguish a fire which broke out this morning around 10.55am at Court de Valois flats on the corner of Cason and Campbell roads, Boksburg North.

According to Aaron Mafunda from the Ekurhuleni Emergency Services, upon arrival fire-fighters found the fire blazing in three apartments.

Emergency services personnel had to force their way into the flats.

It is believed the fire started in one of the apartments which spread to the two neighbouring apartments.

All three apartments suffered severe severe damage.

A family of four, including a 4-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy, were saved.

Three cats and one kitten were also rescued and taken to the SPCA while another cat died from smoke inhalation.

Emerg-G- Med officials saved the life of the kitten by administrating oxygen on site.

Russel Meiring from ER24 said when paramedics, along with other services arrived on scene, they found the flats well ablaze.

Meiring said an EMPD officer ushered the paramedics to the awaiting patients.

On assessment, paramedics found that the man and the woman, along with the children, had sustained various injuries including burns and smoke inhalation.

Paramedics treated the patients and provided them with advanced life support interventions.

“Once treated, the patients were transported to various hospitals for further treatment. The cause of the fire is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations,” said Meiring.

The cause of the fire will be investigated by local authorities.
