Two killed, 15 injured in Barry Marais Road accident

Two people died and 15 others were injured after a taxi and a bakkie collided at the intersection of Barry Marais and Old Heidelberg roads (R103) just outside Vosloorus on February 7.

Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) rescue squad responded swiftly to the scene and found the two vehicles in a T-bone crash.

Ekurhuleni Emergency Services media liaison manager William Ntladi said emergency personnel discovered two lifeless bodies on scene by paramedics.

Ntladi said two patients had sustained critical injuries while thirteen others suffered serious but stable injuries.

“One of the critically injured patient was airlifted to hospital and all others were road transported by ambulances to various hospitals around the City of Ekurhuleni for further medical care.

“It is alleged that the taxi with 15 occupants including the driver, was from Vosloorus and destined to Dunswart station in Boksburg while the bakkie was heading in the direction Heidelberg on R103.”

Ntladi said the cause of the accident is still undetermined and the intersection had to be closed for traffic until all the relevant investigations are conducted.
