Please support local newborn babies in need

Through no fault of their own, scores of newborn babies in Boksburg and surrounding areas are going without the most basic things they need, due to poverty.

To address the plight of the newborns, the Anglican Church of Boksburg is appealing for donations to address the tragedy occurring in the communities.

Speaking on behalf of the Anglican Church of Boksburg, Deacon Barbara Morrison said her church began to take an interest in the plight of the babies in 2013, after noticing needy mothers leaving Tambo Memorial Hospital with children wrapped in newspaper and put into shopping bags.

“With the donations we have been receiving from St Dunstan’s College, in Benoni, the Nedbank Legal Department and church members, we have been able to visit the hospital at least once a month to give hampers of basic clothing and blankets to the very vulnerable newborn babies,” she added.

Morrison said that with the dozens of babies delivered at the hospital per day, the donations they receive are

nowhere near enough to help all the poor newborn babies at the hospital.

“More supplies of baby stuff are urgently needed, therefore we appeal to the generous hearts of the people of Boksburg to help us reach more newborn babies.

“Winter is coming and there’s a great need, especially with unemployment being so high,” she explained.

“Please help us to make a difference to these most vulnerable members of our community.”

Donations, which will help the church to continue their job of serving Tambo Memorial Hospital’s newborn babies in need,

can include a wide variety of goods, including blankets and baby clothes.

Other items that are much needed are baby wipes, disposable nappies, soap, baby lotion, infant formula, infant care products and other necessities parents need for their babies.

Donations can be taken to the offices of the Anglican Church of Boksburg, at the corner of Commissioner and Plein streets.

The drop off point is open from Monday to Friday, from 8.30am to 12.30pm.

Donations of money are also accepted.
