Boksburg SAPS’s new top cop aims to win war against crime

Boksburg SAPS’s newly-appointed station commander, Col Daniel Baloyi, wants to build a strong working relationship with the community of Boksburg in order to win the war against crime.

The friendly colonel took over as station commander of the Boksburg SAPS on January 21, assuring residents of Boksburg that he will make sure that his police station delivers the best police service to the community.

Baloyi succeeds Col Biggs Govender who spent about 10 years in the service of the Boksburg community.

The 55-year-old Col Baloyi, born and bred in Limpopo, has more than 30 years of policing experience, and he previously spent 10 years serving as a station commander for Thokoza SAPS.

He started his career in 1986 as a constable assigned to carry out preliminary crime scene investigation.

He acquired a diploma in policing, and has obtained several certificates in criminal procedure and criminal law, as well as SAPS skills development training courses.

He climbed up through the police ranks and was promoted up the ranks to colonel a couple of years ago.

Baloyi has worked in several police stations since he began his journey as a police officer more than three decades ago.

These include the Germiston SAPS, Katlehong SAPS and Thokoza SAPS.

He has also worked in a number of police units, including the crime prevention unit.

Now that he has settled in, Baloyi is more than ready to serve the people of Boksburg and he would like to work closely with the community through the various community forums.

He is also keen to meet all the stakeholders and get to know those he serves.

With the community of Boksburg, he is very determined to start a revolution to unite against the common enemy – crime.

He believes that community engagement can make a difference in fighting crime as police will have eyes and ears everywhere.

He urges the community, NGOs, faith-based organisations, community leaders, security companies and community forums (including the CPFs and Youth Desk) to work together with the police.

“It is of utmost importance to engage the entire community if you want to effectively control or solve crime.

“I want to build a strong relationship with all our stakeholders – community members and all the community forums.

“We all need one another and to work together to fight crime in our communities so I call on the community to work with us, in order to rid the town of crime,” said Baloyi.

Baloyi promised residents that he will never allow service delivery to be comprimised, adding that members who fail to toe the line would be dealt with accordingly. -@FanieFLK
