Mayor leads public consultation process

The Mayor of Ekurhuleni, Mondli Gungubele, and the Mayoral Committee will, during February, carry out the last Izimbizo for this current term of office.

The Izimbizo is a programme used by government representatives to account to communities for the work they are doing, while also consulting communities for input in terms of taking the city forward.

“This is one of the most effective public consultation processes of government,” said mayoral spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

“When we go to communities, we do so with an open mind, because we know that we are a government of the people, which must account, but must also be open to public criticism and advice.

“The current term of local government office ends with the local government elections later in the year, having started in 2011.

“The mayor, therefore, believes it is proper that a report be given to communities before the hard work of campaigning gets into full gear.”

The Mayoral Izimbizo programme has been a top priority for Gungubele, who took office in 2010.

Two rounds of these community sessions have been hosted every year, since then.

Members of the Mayoral Committee will be spread throughout the city on February 17 and 18.

The schedule for the Izimbizo for Boksburg/Vosloorus is February 17, at Katlehong 2 CCC, and on February 18, at Vosloorus Extension 28 (marquee).
