Post Office in CBD still a mess

Marius de Vos, Ward 32 DA Branch chairperson, writes,

One year ago, I led a team of concerned members of the public and members of the DA in Ward 32 across the racial bar in cleaning the post collection area and garden of the Boksburg Post Office.

This followed numerous failed attempts to convince both the branch manager and the regional management to take care of the post office.

Fast forward to 2016, and Boksburg Post Office workers, including the manager, are still walking past litter and other rubbish without considering taking up a simple broom and water to clean at least the main entrance to the facility.

I have previously accompanied Cameron McKenzie (DA deputy shadow minister on Telecommunications and Postal Services) and Janet Semple (DA MPL in the Gauteng Legislature) to the post office on an oversight visit to witness the health risks.

We also aimed to put political pressure on the post office to take proper care of the facility used by scores of businesses and residents of Boksburg.

Postal services in Boksburg are sadly becoming inaccessible due to the deplorable state of the facility and the health risks it poses to both clients and the public at large.

I’m well aware of the lack of or the non-existence of public toilets in the CBD, but you can’t have a situation where it is allowed for vagrants to relieve themselves on the premises of the post office.

The DA Ward 32 branch refuses to accept the deliberate decaying of government buildings on the watch of employees of government.
