Mozambican men caught stripping hijacked vehicle

Three Mozambican men were arrested after being found in possession of a hijacked vehicle in Boksburg.

According to Boksburg SAPS’ Sgt Cebisa Maseko, the vehicle, a bakkie, was hijacked in Diepkloof before it was recently recovered by the Boksburg police and Cartrack, a vehicle tracking company.

“Once the tracker was activated, a joint effort by Cartrack officials and our members resulted in the suspects being located and cornered at the ERPM houses on Trichardts Road in Cason.

“The men were found busy stripping the hijacked vehicle on the street.

“They apparently noticed the approaching police van and ran towards a nearby house, where they were later apprehended,” said Maseko.

Police searched the house and confiscated other suspected stolen vehicle parts.

The suspects were charged for the possession of a stolen vehicle as well as possession of suspected stolen goods.

Investigation will continue to possibly link them to the Diepkloof hijacking case.

Maseko told this publication that processes are underway to return the vehicle to its rightful owner. @FanieFLK
