‘It’s the beginning of great things to come’ – Sunward top achiever

"Smart phones are not the end of it - something even greater is coming."

These are the words of Sunward Park High School’s top matric achiever, Masechaba Khoza, who will be studying Computer Engineering at the University of Cape Town.

Masechaba will be studying this course with the intention to create computer applications that will be able to execute tasks that the current ones cannot.

She said she does not come from a family of academics. She is actually the first to achieve at this level.

“It’s time for a paradigm shift – it’s the beginning of great things to come,” she said, adding that she is the type who sets goals and achieves them.

Masechaba said that she does not party as she prioritises her education more than anything.

Her dedication paid off with seven distinctions, in mathematics, Afrikaans additional language, physical science, religion studies, computer application technology and life sciences.

She advised the up and coming matriculants to be true to themselves, to know their weaknesses and strengths and to not lose themselves in the process.

“In matric you get one chance and you better do it right the first time and leave a legacy,” she said.

She prefers being referred to as a hard worker rather than intelligent.
