Driver in fatal Rietfontein Road crash over legal alcohol limit

The driver of an Audi which collided with a Golf, killing its two occupants in Riefontein Road, has been charged with culpable homicide.

The accident occurred just outside the East Rand Mall, in the early hours of Saturday, November 28.

Boksburg North police spokesperson Lieut Juanita Coetzer said the EMPD official who responded to the accident performed a breathalyser test on the driver of the Audi.

“The reading was above the legal alcohol limit and the driver was arrested and also taken for a blood test.”

Coetzer said that the driver was detained at Boksburg North SAPS and face culpable homicide charge.

ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing reported at the time of the accident that paramedics and other services arrived on scene and found that a Golf and Audi were involved in a head-on collision.

There were two men trapped in the Golf.

“Upon assessment by paramedics it was found that the men had succumbed to their injuries,” said Bodasing.

They had sustained multiple injuries.

The three occupants of the Audi were uninjured.
