Geese are dying at Marbore Court dam

One by one ,the geese at the Marbore Court (flats) dam, in Marbore Street, Impala Park, are dying.

This is according to a resident who has been living in the apartment building for the past seven years.

Apparently, a number of geese died last week and the reason for this is unknown.

However, the resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, told the Advertiser that the dam has not been cleaned by the Ekurhuleni Metro since she moved into Marbore Court.

“I don’t know if there’s something in the water, because the geese don’t go into or near it anymore,” she said.

“Seven year ago the dam was neat and clean and there were a lot of geese, now it’s full of reeds and algae and it stinks – it’s absolutely disgusting and pathetic.

”The municipality should clean the dam.”

According to the complainant, the geese have also not bred this year.

* About a month ago the Advertiser also reported on the wild ducks that are dying in large numbers at the dam in Mystere Avenue, Impala Park.

The Advertiser alerted the SPCA and the Ekurhuleni Metro to both situations and is still awaiting comment.
