No EMM logo, no emptying of wheelie bin

Linda Vivies, a resident of Boksburg, said that the municipality stopped collecting her wheelie bin because it doesn't have the Ekurhuleni Municipal logo on it.

“It’s been three months now and the municipal refuse removal officials have been refusing to empty my wheelie bin,” she said.

“When I asked why, they said that it doesn’t have the Ekurhuleni logo on it.

“I don’t understand why, because the wheelie bin looks exactly like the municipal wheelie bin, it’s just that it doesn’t have the logo.

“Due to this I had to go and dump my rubbish elsewhere, doing the service that the municipality has to provide because I pay for the services, but they are not rendered,” Vivies said.

According to Themba Gadebe, metro spokesperson, the reason why the waste collectors do not collect/service bins without the logo is to ensure that the metro does not lose revenue.

“Only bins that were distributed by the Ekurhuleni Metro will, therefore, be collected,” he said.

“The bins that the metro procured have a unique bin serial number which enables the metro to trace a bin to a specific address.

“The bins are also embossed with a metro logo, to identify the bin as Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s property.”

Residents may contact the Boksburg Waste Management Depot on 011 999 5301/5423 to request a metro bin with the correct logo and a unique serial number.
