Staff told police they were busy in the shop at about 8pm, when they noticed a man entering the shop and pointing a firearm at a customer.
Boksburg North police spokesperson Juanita Coetzer said the suspect then ordered everyone in the shop to lie down.
Another suspect entered the shop and walked straight to the cashier.
“He handed the cashier a bag and told him to empty the cash register and put all the money in the bag,” said Coetzer.
He took packets of cigarettes from the shelf, as well as the cashier’s cellphone.
No one was injured.
Coetzer said a case has been registered and is currently under investigation.
