Photographer struck by passing train

A man believed to be a photographer was critically injured when he was hit by a passing train, on Sunday, November 22, in Witfield.

The man was reportedly standing near the railway track, taking pictures of passing trains when the train struck him.

This is according to Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha.

Botha said Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene to find the man lying on the ground with serious injuries.

“Emergency personnel stabilised the injured man at the scene before he was transported to a local hospital for the care that he required.

“Exact detail as to how it happened is still speculative and will remain a subject for police investigation,” said Botha.

Boksburg North police could not confirm the accident and stated that such incident has not been reported to them.

“Although we saw media reports of an accident involving a photographer and a train, we don’t have such an accident report at the station,” said Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson Lieut Juanita Coetzer.

It was initially reported that the accident happened near the Boksburg Lake, which falls under the Boksburg SAPS policing precinct.

However, the Boksburg SAPS also could not confirm the accident and stated that such incident has not been reported to them.

“We suspect that the man was injured in a hit-and-run accident or it didn’t happen in our area.

“However, we are busy trying to establish if these reports are true, as we have already contacted local hospitals and our local railway line stations to find out if they know about such an accident.” -@FanieFLK
